TikTok recently released data show that its global monthly active users has reached 1 billion.
"thanks to the creativity and authenticity of our creators,TikTok has become a favorite part of people's lives around the world,"the company said in a statement.
The number of TikTok users has soared in the past few years,especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,when a large number of US users joined the service.The United States,Europe,Brazil and Southeast Asia are the biggest markets for the short video app.
Every month, "more than 1 billion people from around the world come to TikTok to entertain,inspire or discover new things,such as sports,music,art and culture,fashion,DIY and so on,"said Vanessa Pappas,chief operating officer of TikTok.
The app was the most downloaded non-game app in August 2021,according to analytics firm Sensor Tower.
TikTok said it had about 55 million monthly active users worldwide as of January 2018.By December 2018,that number had grown to 271 million and by December 2019 to 507 million.Last summer,the platform had nearly 700 million monthly active users.
According to a consumer survey conducted by Ampere,the number of TikTok users tripled worldwide last year.At present,the five European markets with the largest year-on-year growth in users are Spain(391%),Germany(353%),France(312%),Italy(301%)and the United Kingdom(282%).The entire European market has about 100 million TikTok users,including 17 million in the UK,11 million in France and 11 million in Germany.
TikTok currently has users in nearly 200 countries and nearly 80 languages.
